The hollow body of the drum is covered by leather. Such drums were mostly used in temples and palaces during ceremonies and festivals during prayers when religious prayers are sung. The vedas, one of the oldest Sanskrit religious scriptures in the world, contain references to the use of drums. Drums were also used in warfare when armies charged towards their enemies.
